Information Literacy and Student Success

Description:

In this session, I’ll discuss evidence demonstrating the connections between student success and research/information literacy skills, specifically focusing on which factors relate to academic success (ex. information literacy education, research consultations, library utilization, etc.). I will discuss how research is an interconnected process with writing/related assignments, and how the two often need to be used together for exploring new ideas and completing assignments. I’ll address the most essential library tools, as well as ways to get help and support through the library. I will focus on tools that will be most approachable for students, including our peer research mentor program and online tools. The goal for this session will be to prepare advisors to guide students to available research support systems, thereby encouraging success in individual courses, their academic and professional careers, and personal exploration and lifelong learning. Time permitting, I will also lead a discussion about the best ways to promote these resources and identify specific student research needs.

Do you know if you're a Responsible Employee or what that entails?

Description:

“Staff and faculty at Colorado State University who work closely with students are uniquely positioned to support those in our community who may have been impacted by instances of sexual misconduct and/or interpersonal violence (IPV). They don’t have to do it alone though! Most employees are required to report any instances of IPV disclosed to them to the Office of Title IX Programs and Gender Equity. Do you know if you’re a Responsible Employee or what that entails? How can you best be supporting students impacted by instances of IPV, or who are navigating reporting processes related to IPV and sexual misconduct? Take this opportunity to lean on your campus partners and have your questions answered. If you’ve attended a similar session previously, this session will include updated information on reporting requirements to the Title IX Office, and guidance from professional staff on responding in a trauma-informed way.”
